When reading a book series...

There is nothing more that I love than my favourite book turning out to be a series. To know that the characters and the place I've fallen in love will continue through a few other books.

But I can't be the only one that manages to sometimes forget something from the previous book?
I don't remember this happening to me when I first began reading; I remember that I continued Vampire Academy as soon as I got the next book and everything that happened previously was fresh in my brain. It might be the fact that I'm older now (although I shouldn't have memory problems at 18) I found myself rereading the last chapter of Divergent just to refresh my memory when I finally began reading Insurgent. I couldn't for the life of me remember who Marcus was, I knew the main story and all the factions but apart from Tris and Four the other characters didn't seem to have made a massive impact on me. Which is super surprising seeing as it's one of my favourite books.

I don't know if I'm going crazy or not but this is happening more and more. I seem to forget some of the less important bits in books; which might not seem that shocking but compared to a few years ago when I could remember a random line in a book a few months after reading it.

Am I the only one that manages to forget something? Forget a character? What are your thoughts on this guys.

  1. Nope. I have a terrible memory! Even when I'm obsessed with a series, if it takes more than a year for thr next book to come out I'm like 'WHO IS THIS NEW CHARACTER?! Oh.. they've been in it since the beginning? My bad..'

For instance, I recently read the last two in thr Sookie Stackhouse series after nearly 3 years away from it and I had no idea what was going kn really..

That's why I like to binge read a whole series (at least that's what I tell myself)

  2. actually i am very disappointed with vampire diaries as a series. LJ Smith might be one of my top authors to follow, VD has been getting so weird i stopped reading it

  3. Nope I also have terrible memory when it comes to these things. Though ever since I started writing reviews, I've been better with remembering people!

  4. Nope! you are not the only one! If you asked me about a book I read at the start of this year, I would have probably forgot about 70%.of it. I more or less forget a book once I have read it. Unless it really sticks with me, It goes over my head. That's why I try not to wait to long between reviewing and reading :')

Great discussion! and as I said before, you are not the only one! xx

  5. You're not alone.Sometimes it's really difficult to follow a series, since I don't remember half of the things from the first book. That's why I normally buy all the books from a finished series, rather than waiting for the sequel.

  6. oh, you are not the only one. sometimes im in the middle of the book when i finally menage to connect the character and what happened to it in the previous book (but i'm 10 years your senior so...)
but i don't think is aging, i think its the avid reading thing. when you read 10-15 books a month some of the details tent to jumble together or be forgotten!

  7. Usually I'm very good at binge reading a book series! But recently I kept trying to read novels and random books that would pop up on my TBR pile!

  8. I stopped reading it after the 6th book I think? But after the second book I basically forced myself to read the rest.

  10. Haha! YAY! I meet so many people that happen to remember and can quote so much from a book they read years ago! But thinking about it now they do usually read one book a month or something! :D

  11. It's hard to do that when the author is still writing the series :P

  13. This happens to me all the time!! I'm about to start The Infinite Sea (The 5th Wave 2) but I can't seem to remember exactly what happened in the first book!! I remember it being awesome and vaguely what it's about, but there were so many characters, I don't remember everything that happened. I always end up feeling rather ashamed. :/

Great post, sorry I haven't stopped by in a while!

    Have a good weekend!
