Friends (The TV Show)

I didn't get a lot of reading done this summer because of many reasons but I did get something else done. I watched all 10 seasons of Friends.

I had only watched a handful of episodes from each of the seasons and so until I saw the show, from the beginning to the end, I couldn't appreciate the awesomeness of it.

I found this short trailer on youtube, so I decided to share it (I would have shared bloopers but bloopers tend to be long).

Moving on. This show was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Seeing the journey of these 6 individuals over a span of ten years, there are the little things you learn from their experiences. The most important being, always cherish your friends.

I also happen to be a huge How I Met Your Mother fan and it was weird how similar the two turned out to be. I am not sure how I feel about that but I do believe that the humor in Friends was a whole lot better and overall I think I do prefer Friends to HIMYM.

One of the things both the shows have in common is that the later seasons start losing their magic. They were funny but some of the things just seemed forced.

(If you have not watched the show, it would be advisable to stop reading right about now and watch the show instead and then come back)

Like when Joey fell in love with Rachel. I did not care for that at all because I love Joey and I knew it would never work out between the two. I didn't want to Joey's heart getting broken. On top of that it just seemed like unnecessary drama. What purpose did Joey's falling in love with Rachel serve other then stirring the pot and creating more conflict? Plus it messed with my idea of Joey's character. He was always the guy who didn't fall in love, was never serious about anyone. But it was clear he loved his friends dearly. I didn't want him to change, I wanted him to be the lovable teddy bear he was. Also after being shot down.. things went back to normal rather quickly and nothing remarkable happened between the two until the end of Season 9. This just goes on to show how there wasn't much point to Joey falling in love with Rachel.

One of the other things that bothered me a lot was the last episode, it just didn't work for me. I guess part of that was because it's hard to let go but some things just didn't add up. For starters the Ross and Rachel thing came out of nowhere. I mean it's understood they are going to end up together but I think there should have been some build up to it during Season 10. Then the other thing (which made me sad more than anything else) was the fact that Chandler and Monica were moving away. It just seemed like everyone would move on with their lives and they wouldn't have fun times anymore like they had before.

It's just so hard to let go of the show, I think its going to take time before I can finally let go but until then... I have the bloopers.

  1. I love Friends! I watched it back in the day when it was on TV and own all the seasons now. I'm glad you embarked on the Friends journey and enjoyed it. I always watch an episode when I'm in a crappy mood and need to sit back, relax, and laugh.
