Favorite Quotes

We've all have plenty of quotes under our belts. Ones that made us re-think things. Ones that affected us on a spiritual level or ones that simply made us want to cuddle (with a soft toy :P). Rashika and I decided to put together some of our favorite quotes.

Right so I'm boring and I will do mostly book quotes :P Which isn't so bad.

Pablo Neruda's poem "Nothing but death" is absolutely amazing and I know it's not a quote but I saw it on Goodreads and loved it for years it's also on my wall so I need to share this with you guys!!

Death arrives among all that sound,
like a shoe with no foot in it,
like a suit with no man in it,
comes and knocks,
using a ring with no stone in it,
with no finger in it,
comes and shouts with no mouth,
with no tongue, with no throat.
Nevertheless it's steps can be heard and it's clothing makes a hushed sound, like a tree.

No stealing ideas here but I'm hoping to maybe get this lovely little quote by L.M Montgomery's quote from Anne of Green Gables tattoo'd on me.
"My life is a perfect graveyard of buried hopes"
It's silly but I love this by Steve Martin
"A day without sunshine is like, you know, night"
For some mush now from Veronica Roth in Divergent
"I might be in love with you." He smiles a little. "I'm waiting until I'm sure to tell you, though."
Right I can't do this without some quotes from John Green because he's so fantastic that my heart does a flip when I read his writing.
"As long as we don't die this is gonna be one hell of a story"
"If you don't imagine, nothing ever happens at all"
"As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once"
"My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations"
"That's the thing about pain, "Augustus said and then glanced back at me "it demands to be felt"
"The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive"
"So I walked back to my room and collapsed on the bottom bunk, thinking if people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane"

So it's my turn now. And I hate Paulina. As a reader, I have billions of favorite books. Okay perhaps not that many but yes I have a lot. But even from books that aren't favorites, there are quotes that have stuck with me. There are books that are favorites but there isn't a particular quote that stuck out. Going back and trying to dig out quotes is HARDDDDDDD.

“If you'll kiss me back," he whispered huskily, brushing his lips along the curve of her jaw, "I'll make it six million.
If you'll go to bed with me tonight," he continued, losing himself in the scent of her perfume and the softness of her skin, "I'll give you the world. But if you'll move in with me," he continued, dragging his mouth across her cheek to the corner of her lips, "I'll do much better than that."
Unable to turn her face farther because his arm was in the way, and unable to turn her body because his body was in the way, Meredith tried to infuse disdain in her voice and simultaneously ignore the arousing touch of his tongue against her ear. "Six million dollars and the whole world!" she said in a slightly shaky voice. "What else could you possibly give me if I move in with you?" "Paradise." Lifting his head, Matt took her chin between his thumb and forefinger and forced her to meet
his gaze. In an aching, solemn voice he said, "I'll give you paradise on a gold platter. Anything you want— everything you want. I come with it, of course. It's a package deal." Meredith wallowed audibly, mesmerized by the melting look in his silver eyes and the rich timbre of his deep voice. "We'll be a family," he continued, describing the paradise he was offering while he bent his head to her again. "We'll have children ... I'd like six," he teased, his lips against her temple. "But I'll settle for one. You don't have to decide now." She drew in a ragged breath and Matt decided he'd pushed matters as far as he dared for one night. Straightening abruptly, he chucked her under her chin. "Think about it," he suggested with a grin.”
-Paradise by Judith McNaught

That was more like a paragraph but that whole tid bit touched me. It's the sweetest thing ever. I may not have been the hugest fan of the book but that quote. That 'quote' is beautiful.

“I had heard the old Indian legend about the red fern. How a little Indian boy and girl were lost in a blizzard and had frozen to death. In the spring, when they were found, a beautiful red fern had grown up between their two bodies. The story went on to say that only an angel could plant the seeds of a red fern, and that they never died; where one grew, that spot was sacred.”
-Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls

If you were ever a kid and loved this book, you know exactly what I am talking about. Excuse me while I go tear up inside.

“Don't judge a man until you have walked two moons in his moccasins.”
-Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech

This book found a place inside my heart but this quote. This particular quote has stuck with me since I first read this book.

“Star people are rare.”
-Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

This book just broke my heart. It really did. My heart broke even more with the sequel but I remember loving it so much.

“Here at the sea---especially at the sea---I could hear my sister’s voice in the waves: “Kira-kira! Kira-kira!”
-Kira-Kira by Cynthia Kadohota

That quote has stuck with me for almost 8 years now. I still haven't forgotten it.

“My father took one hundred and thirty-two minutes to die.

I counted.

It happened on the Jellicoe Road. The prettiest road I’d ever seen, where trees made breezy canopies like a tunnel to Shangri-La. We were going to the ocean, hundreds of miles away, because I wanted to see the ocean and my father said that it was about time the four of us made that journey. I remember asking, 'What’s the difference between a trip and a journey?' and my father said, 'Narnie, my love, when we get there, you’ll understand,' and that was the last thing he ever said.”
-On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

This isn't a quote. It's the opening of the book. But it's one of the best openings in the whole universe. It's something that hooks you and won't let you go. Much like this book, which is one of my all time favorites.

“I saw Eternity the other night,
Like a great ring of pure and endless light,
All calm, as it was bright,
And round beneath it, Time, in hours, days, years,
Driven by the spheres,
Like a vast shadow moved, in which the world
And all her train were hurled.”
-A Ring of Endless Light by Madeline L'Engle

I am not sure why this quote really stuck with me. Well it wasn't precisely this quote. It was the 'ring of pure and endless light' part that has stuck with me.

“I keep telling myself
That you’re
just a girl.
Another leaf blown across my path
Destined to pass on
And shrivel into yourself
Like all the others.
Yet despite my venom
You refuse to wither
Or fade.
You remain golden throughout,
And in your gaze I am left to wonder if it is me alone
Who feels the fall.”

“Is — is any of this real?" she asked. "Are you real?"

He lifted a hand to her cheek, his fingers brushing her jaw.

"Even if this is a dream," he whispered, "I'm not."

“He clutched the watch hard in his fist, determined to destroy it, to prove that it couldn't be real. That she hadn't come here because of him, for him.

That he hadn't done what he knew he had.”

All of the above quotes are from Enshadowed by Kelly Creagh. Yes three. I'd have chosen more from the other books. We all know that. I shouldn't have cheated. But I couldn't help myself. This book is special because it's one of the most memorable books I've read that I didn't read in middle school or elementary school. I've loved many books but very few have impacted me the way this one did.

*whew* I got THAT done. I was a little worried there for a moment with the amount of tabs I had open. There are plenty of other books I wish I could take quotes from but I don't want to spam you guys. (No that wasn't spamming.. you've seen nothing)

We had loads of fun doing this and hope to do it in the near future... but with more specific books so we don't die trying to dig out quotes.

  4. Great post, I adore quotes so much! I'm always collecting them as I read and looking for my favourites on pinterest.
Love that Anne of Green Gables one! It's so over dramatic and angsty but still beautiful. Great idea for a tattoo.
And that quote from Four = ALL THE FEELS!
