Top Ten Tuesday #7

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Today's topic: Top Ten Things On My Reading Wishlist (if you could make authors write about these things you would. Could be a specific type of character, an issue tackled, a time period, a certain plot, etc.)

This is probably the best topic of all time because I always have so many ideas in my head and this will probably be a great way to let them out.
  1. Chick Lits written about gay couples. There are YA contemporaries, Eroticas and a whole bunch of other genres that have gay couples as the leads but not a single chick lit. It would be so fun to read a nice, heart warming book, set in some small town, with a gay couple for the main couple.
  2. Humans living on another planet. So I know one book that already exists that does just that but I cannot remember it's name (even though I've tried and would sell my soul to know the name) and I haven't encountered many books since then that do that. The general idea is that humans colonized a planet ages ago, they are no longer 'humans of Earth' but 'citizens' of that planet. It's their home... and then they meet up with the aliens, who they've considered enemies and have an adventure. Now before you go pointing fingers at the Chaos Walking series, I want the aliens to actually be... a lot different than they were in that series. Okay so I basically want a book that is exactly like the book I read years ago but yeah.
  3. Ice Queens. I want an honest to goodness Ice Queen. Whenever a female lead turns out to be one, it's almost always because she had some traumatizing experience and as soon as the 'right' guy comes along, she gets over her 'ice queeness'. Can we not have a female lead who is an ice queen and possibly remains that way???
  4. Books about the Salem Witch Trials. I get the feeling there are already some out there but... maybe something that I can read?
  5. Historical romances NOT SET IN ENGLAND. This is really important. I want to read a HR that isn't set in England or Europe for that matter. There should definitely be more HR novels set in the States.. and I keep on imagining one set during the Civil War.
  6. More second chance romances. Okay so I've gotten burned more times than I've hit the jackpot (I think) but seriously, there need to be more books like Spring Fever and Nowhere but Home.
  7. More books that involve cooking. Not cooking shows. Cooking. As someone who loves her food, I absolutely adore books that throw cooking into the mix. Something sweet like Nowhere but Home. (I really did hit the jackpot with that one).
  8. More spy romances. What is up with the fact that there aren't a lot of books out there involving spies and romance? And why in said books are most of the female leads women that need to be rescued? Seriously, we need more books like Ice Storm. With badass female leads who go undercover.
  9. YA characters that actually like moving. As someone who has moved around quite a bit, I am one of the few people who LOVE moving so it always hurts a little when YA characters go on and on about how their lives suck and how they wish they could fit in. I'd love to read a book about YA characters that actually enjoy moving.
  10. Beta Males. More beta males. Definitely. I am tired of all the alphas and the idea that girls only fall for the 'bad boys'. Seriously. NEED MORE BETA MALES.
Admittedly this list took longer than I thought it would but now all I can think of is 'that one more idea' lingering at the back of my head.

Happy reading everyone!

These are pretty awesome ideas, Rashika! The "human living in another planet" Amie Kaufman's These Broken Stars involves people living in a lots of planet. Although they don't involve that much aliens, oooh, I'm not sure if the "whispers" were the aliens. Haha. But it's the closest I could think of. Anyway, second chances romance are my favorites too, try Snow-Kissed by Laura Florance, though that one is actually an adult book, but it was really really good. Haha! And I totally love you're MORE BETA MALES idea! Need more of them! :D

I just finished the recently released Legally Wed, and it's extremely close to what you describe as chick lit with a gay couple, though I'm not sure the term chick lit can possibly apply. It wasn't the best read ever, but I liked it.

  6. ANYTHING WORKS IN THIS CASE. The idea actually hit me a couple days ago when I started imagining what my favorite chick lits would be like if there was a gay couple in the lead and then the gears in my brain started working and.. I kind of developed a brief idea :P

  7. I KNOW RIGHT??? Bad boys in YA usually make me want to punch something. Like STAPH MAN. Staph. Please be more mature :P Plus it sends a wrong message... it's not like all girls like bad boys.. we like the super cute ones too :P

I am actually worried the oncoming trend will ruin it because... they probably won't give me what I want and instead be more romantic or just plain annoying.

  8. ahh I just want colonization of one planet.. by like humans.. I get the idea that These Broken Stars is a lot more than just humans.. since everyone is practically an alien? I am not sure though, I still have to read the book .-.
I don't mind adult. THANKS FOR THE REC EUNICE! :) We definitely need more Beta Males. Alpha males aren't the only swoon worthy ones.

  9. I like this TTT topic! Great choices on your list. I don't read much historical romance, but when I do, it IS nearly always set in England. I'd love to see stories in a more varied range of countries too, and for all genres. If there's one thing that I'd LOVE to see more of myself is YA pirate books. With lots of adventure and possible a sexy pirate boy to boot. ;) I've come across a few older titles, but there don't seem to be many being published at the moment. I also want more Indiana Jones type stories. :D

  10. That's a must for Dystopia too. From what I've read, dystopian novels tend to take place in The States. :/ It usually makes me wonder what's going on with the rest of the world. It's probably why I adore the Lunar Chronicles soo much.

    YA PIRATE BOOKS!
.. Okay so I may have thought of Naji but I realized he was an assassin and not a pirate. BUT HEY Ananna WAS a pirate.

Sam.. I know what you're thinkingggggg :P What? There are more YA pirates? With awesome male leads? Why have I not heard of them? .-. I think some goodreads searches are in my future.
Indiana Jones type stories. Now all these ideas are in my head and I just.. I wish... there was more variety in the YA genre. :/ Or books being published these days in general. Sometimes it feels like we're reading the same thing again and again and without any variation :/
