DNF Reviews

I tend to DNF books a lot and over the past 2 years, I've DNFed around 50. For me, that is quite a bit because I once used to be a person who HATED DNFing, even when the book was so obviously going to be the end of me. I don't usually review the books I've DNFed and have only written 2 full fleshed reviews for books I have DNFed but I do write the occasional paragraph or a couple of lines so I thought I'd share those. Keep in mind none of these have been 're-edited' and it's been a while since I've written some of them.

The girl has a pushy mom that is pressurizing her to follow HER dream. Of course the girl actually loves the sport so it isn't that big of a deal to her but still. Also she used to train with her mother but when she became better than her mother, her mother suddenly didn't have time for her. Also the mother is so strict. This is like a slap in my face because I absolutely HATE it when there are terrible parents in YA. Plus I am close to my mom so if you try to shove such a horrible mother down my throat that will almost definitely backfire (there are exceptions but that is not the point).

How about the pushover father? Who doesn't even do anything to stop the mental/emotional abuse the mother is putting the daughter through? He just stands in the background like a little lapdog.

So bad parents = point 1

Insta love=point 2.

They are hitting second base on their second date for crying out loud! Which was at her house when her parents were away at a party so it wasn't even really a date. Oh and did I mention that the dude is a quarter back and the captain of the football team and also a player? Who went cold feet on his dating around /sleeping around so that he would have a shot at this girl who doesn't think she is pretty and cannot understand why he would want to date her?

So if this sounds like something you would enjoy have fun, who am I to judge? and if this doesn't sound like something you'd like, pack your bags make a fucking run for it, save your lives, it's definitely not worth it.

(okay so this isn't actually a DNF review but I did skim through the whole book so I thought it would count)

I totally forgot I read this book. I read it sometime last year and I may have buried it somewhere in my mind because I was so traumatized by this book. It was extremely offensive and it just makes me want to scream and throw things. It's like this book is mocking domestic abuse. It's a damn serious issue and just please. Ugh.

There is nothing else to say.. I could write a huge rant but I'd just end up being angrier and would spend the entire night thinking about this and ruin my mood (not that I feel particularly good). It would have been better if I hadn't remembered this book at all.

Books like this one make me wish I could rate a book 0 or give it negative stars.

Why the hell did I read this?
I was looking forward to reading this and despite the reviews I thought that it would still be awesome. I mean common; a necromancer institute, Egyptian mythology.. whats there not to like?
The crappy female lead.
Oh my god I could kill her. That's how much she annoyed me. She is so freaking shallow. Plus half of the time I don't get what's going on because she is always thinking or having flashbacks.
I get the feeling that all she really cares about is hot people. The first time she sees Rath she isn't wondering how he got there.. she thinks 'oh he is kind of hot'.
REALLY? REALLY??
UGH *shudders*
If I read any more of this, I might die.

Noah by Elizabeth Reyes

Not for me.
She says that it's hard to find men that are her own age and that are mature.
I think its hard because she acts like a 15 year old.
I won't be able to live through another chapter of him talking about how hot she is and how she looks so young and how he hopes she doesn't change her mind and her complaining about how hot he is and the fact that he is too young for her.

  1. I think the longer you blog and the more access you have to books, the more likely it is that you start DNFing books that aren't working for you. I just don't have the time to bother with things that I may not love, and honestly I have very little to say about a lot of middle of the road reads.

Totally understand why you weren't compelled to finish the ones you listed above--based on what you wrote, they don't really seem like my thing, either.

  2. I actually read a couple of these books when I was trying to broaden my horizons and read a larger variety of books. That didn't go too well :P
