Sunday Post and Showcase Sunday #20

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog (we modified it to include some more stuff), showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

So this week has not been any less busy for me, I am drowning in upcoming assignments and reviews I am supposed to write before the end of next week (3). Which is why I've been so slow lately. I am so sorry it takes me so long to reply to comments..but I do have Paulina covering my back :P

Plus all shit hit the fan the day Allegiant came out. It was one of my most awaited books for this year and I didn't even read it. You know why?  Because I read the spoilers. And I am SO glad I did because I really did not want to waste money on something that would disappoint me so much. In fact even though I haven't read the book, I was ENRAGED by the ending and have been ranting about it for the last couple of days.  I even wrote a rant on goodreads which resulted in me getting my first trolls and it was a good feeling because it felt like I had passed some sort of ritual. Now I get to hang out with the cool kids.

Except I've got people like JOHN GREEN telling me that I don't actually know how to read, or I am not 'reading it' right. How depressing. I don't know how I even made it so far into life without knowing how to read right. According to him we should be reading generously. What does that EVEN MEAN??? Oh I know, it means that John Green is officially on my shit list. YAY FOR HIM!

If you don't know what I am talking about, here is a link to the article.

Anyway, with halloween coming up this week, we are hoping to review books that have more of a 'horrory' feel to them, you know, to keep up with the theme.

Now moving on to the cover reveals for the week. I missed some last week, so I'll be posting those too, but they are pretty so it'll be worth it :D Of course these aren't all of them, there are plenty more but yeah.

Embers & Ash by T.M. Goeglein

Illusive by Emily Lloyd-Jones

The Warrior  by Victoria Scott

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits & Tea. It's an opportunity to share your book haul.

This week was somewhat exciting when it came to the haul because it turns out I am now on HarperCollins Auto Approval list :D So I basically have access to a whole lot of books and I cannot even use this privilege until I am almost done with everything I have right now and post reviews for that, so that won't be until mid november sadly. But since there were 2 books I already requested before that happened I do get to include those in the haul.

  1. Yay, congrats on being auto-approved! I really hope Into the Still Blue lives up to your expectations.

That sucks about JG. :( I may be in the minority here, but his books aren't really my cup of tea. The only one I've enjoyed is TFiOS, and even then it wasn't a fave or anything.

Again, probably in the minority here, but although I enjoyed Divergent I didn't love it. I think the mc put my of reading the sequel. I am kind of glad now that I didn't bother with it as I can't stand sad endings. Bittersweet is the most I can take. But mostly I'm a HEA kind of girl.

  3. John Green telling people how to read is like a reader telling him how to write. Pompous ass much? Not reading his books and I crossed Divergent off my TBR, not that I thought I'd get to it anytime soon. I don't need to get invested in a series only to be gutted. I can continue to read Anita Blake for that torture.

    Great book haul! :)

  4. I missed the cover reveal for The Warrior... but wow. That is one good-looking back. ;) I didn't miss John Green's comments though. It frustrated me a little too, as I don't think anyone, not even him, can expect readers to read one way or another. You have a great haul of books this week. I'm really looking forward to Into the Still Blue! :)

  5. Great haul girls, enjoy!:)

I haven't read Divergent, but I know from my friend's posts that there's a lot of drama about that last book now. Still, I didn't know it was that bad, until I read this article and all I can say is that IMO both authors & readers should be free to express themselves how they want and both sides should respect each other opinions.

I don't support J. Green. I think it's "sweet" of him to stuck up for his friends, but if I don't like a book- I'm gonna say it and I'm gonna be very clear about it.

I have enjoyed the first two books in the Divergent series, and will still pick up Allegiant. I have to keep some hope for it. :) Left Drowning is sooo good, I hope you enjoy it and the rest of your new books too.

  7. I hope so too.. with everything else that has let me down.. I deserve a break :P

No I am in that minority with you :P I do not think he is the best thing that has ever happened to the contemporary genre. But I've only read 2 of his books (TFiOS and Will Grayson, Will Grayson). And both of them were great but I don't see anything in particular that differentiates them from everything else. I mean TFiOS had interesting teens, but they were a tad bit unrealistic :P

I loved Divergent and enjoyed Insurgent :P but I was never a die hard fan. Yeah same here, I like my HEAs too, so you're really lucky you didn't start Insurgent. :)

  8. oh maybe we should you know? I mean since we're going to be the one reading his books maybe we should tell him how to write and all? :P Bahaha yeah the ending to the series made it not worth it in the end. In fact I hid my copies of the first two books. I don't want to see them ever again :P WHICH IS WHY I WON'T START ANITA BLAKE! I want to but I don't want to read a series that will go on till the end of time and becomes pretty shitty (from what I hear).

  9. I still have to read the first book so I am wayyy behind you. Yeah, I didn't even know it wasn't his first time doing any of that, he seemed like such a nice person, until he went ahead and ruined that illusion. Thanks Sam! ahh I hope you read it soon! So I know what you'll think!

  10. Yeah.. I've been ranting about the book to a friend for the past week. we go back and forth ranting about it :P I think it's great he loved the book but to tell everyone else we are wrong for being mad at the ending is pretty douchebaggy of him.
Exactly! Just because you want a happy ending doesn't make you a 'bad' reader.

  11. I hope you enjoy Allegiant :) I loved Flat-Out Love so I am excited for Left Drowning. Plus it was a freebie! :D
    Thanks Jenea

  12. You have some great books there girls.:)

I've read Left Drowning this summer and I was so disappointed - after Flat-Out Love I expected so much more. It's like completely different author wrote those two books.

I still haven't read Allegiant, but after all reactions I've heard so far, I'm scared to even start.:(

  13. Anita Blake. *big sigh* Such a waste. The first 9 books were pretty awesome and then the 'no edit' clause was instituted by an author who can't write without an awesome editing team. The books after that steadily went down hill. I have found it extremely difficult to give this series up despite the shitty writing. It's my Achilles Heel. I love the world and most of the characters, but the writing...Sweet Baby Jane, the writing is so painful to read now. So many things wrong. I have the latest book that I have not read yet. I have a feeling it will be the end for me.

  14. I know what you mean :P sometimes you read because you have to even though you know it's not good for you and that you'll end up ranting anyway :P
If it's the end for you, you'll know you achieved something because you finally cut off from the series you stopped liking anyway! :D

  15. Really? Now I am kind of worried :P I mean the premises doesn't sound like something I would usually read but I was willing to give it a chance but bleh.

Bahaha I am not even going to try! I haven't read it either honestly :P I just saw the spoilers and all I could see was red for like two days :P

  16. I'm sorry to say it,but it's almost as if completely different author wrote this book.:( Just don't your hopes too high.

Ugh, I avoided GR feed for days, as soon as something orange would pop up, I stopped reading. I promised Tanja that we will read it together and I'm really curious to see how will it end, so I will read it. I can't wait to wach movie. Trailer looks promising.

  17. Well it was a freebie so if it does suck no money lost :P *sigh* some of the initial reviews I saw way back in June seemed promising but since I haven't actually 'checked' out the book since I'd have no idea :P

I cannot find ANY of you guys on goodreads! :/ but yeah don't check out the spoilers.. it's going to ruin the book for you :P It did for me but then again I am kind of greatful for that. Yeah I'll admit, I am one of those people who click on the 'spoiler' buttons. I TRY NOT TO!
