Review: The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead

The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines, #4)The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead
Series: Bloodlines #4
Release Date: November 19th 2013
Publisher: Razorbill
Buy: Amazon | Book Depository

Goodreads Summary

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets - and human lives. In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her. . . . But the struggle isn't over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there's still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure — and re-education — looms larger than ever.

"I won't lie. Walking into a room and seeing your girlfriend reading a baby-name book can kind of make your heart stop."
The book has Adrian’s POV! The first chapter was hard to get into as I just finished Indigo Spell and I was still stuck in Sydney’s head when I had to jump into Adrian’s. It was so fun seeing what’s happening in his head!

Adrian and Sydney are finally together, which annoys me quite a bit… At the start of the book they were literally the most amazing couple and then they turned into a mushy one that stopped flirting with each other and just talked about how much they love each other. Gross. I think I genuinely like the chase and not the relationship in books. But I still love both characters and over the years I have grown so close to both of them.
Now that Sydney has met the rebel Alchemist Marcus in the last book she decides to use her new magic powers to create an ink that can insure the Alchemists can’t reink the “bad” Alchemist’s and make them into robots. I’m still not too sure about the whole magic use with Sydney…
But there’s more problems for Sydney and her secret life when her sister Zoe moves to the school and keeps a close eye on Sydney and her behaviour. Meaning no time with Adrian and little to no time using magic to recreate the ink that Marcus has to travel to Mexico to get.
Basically the books are all turning into a soap opera… I still love following the story but it’s all getting a little bit stretched out. This book I think could have been shortened by about 100 pages that weren’t exactly needed.
BOY OH BOY. Sydney’s worst nightmare has come to life and the book ends on a cliff hanger…

Goodreads Summary

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets - and human lives. In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she struggles to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she finally tracks down the elusive, enigmatic Marcus Finch – a former Alchemist who the organisation denies exists, and who lives in shadows, on the run. With Marcus's help, Sydney realises that the group she's been loyal to her whole life has been hiding the truth from her. Is it possible that her golden lily tattoo might have more power over her than she thinks? As she struggles to come to terms with what that might mean, Sydney is compelled to use her growing magical powers to track down an evil magic user who is targeting powerful young witches. Using magic goes against everything she always thought she believed, but she realises that her only hope is to embrace her special blood – or else she might be next. Forging her own way is harder than Sydney ever dreamed. Maybe by turning off her brain – and following her heart – she'll be able to finally figure out where she belongs.

I started reading Vampire Academy and all the books that followed back in 2011 with a massive love for them! Three years later and I still love Richelle’s work!
Now I usually despise a spin off series as they are never anything like the original and I had a hard time getting used to Sydney in the first two books. However, I love these books, I love Richelle’s vampire world, and I cannot help myself and love this little baby too.
Here’s why I love Richelle’s books
  •      They contain very, very cute boys
  •        There is always action
  •        Humour is never far away
  •        Did I mention the cute boys? Yeah well, they are also smokin’ hot with amazing personalities!
  •      Also Adrian is mine.

Richelle never fails to deliver on these.
Sydney tries to ignore what happened between the (very) hot vampire Adrian and her, and get back to her alchemist duties as well as rebelling and looking for Marcus Finch. Who just happens to hold all the answers that Sydney is seeking about the organisation that she believed and was born into, who may or may not be lying about working with the Warriors. Not only that but Sydney is continuing with her magic use while an old witch is seeking younger magic users to suck out their life force and put them into a coma.
I love the whole rebelling against the Alchemist’s and that’s what’s making me like Sydney at the moment but the whole magic using bit just isn’t working for me. It’s just so boring! Even the witch hunting was a massive snooze fest for me.

I love all the books in the VA series and I love this spin off, but the way the books are arranged is getting slightly boring for me. There just aren’t any surprises for me anymore, every book follows the same structure of starting off from the last book, which is great. Then a problem occurs or some mission that carries on for most of the book, which then turns into the problem-solving chapter of the book ending on a somewhat positive note but with a small hint of a problem for the next book to continue to.

The fact that Sydney and Adrian and now together isn’t a surprise for me either.  Obviously this was going to happen. I just wish I could beat Sydney up and take my rightful place next to Adrian and live with him forever and ever until the day we never die.

But apart from that I loved the book. The characters developed so much and I know them each in such a way that I can even imagine what they will say and their reactions and they just feel like a small family to me. :’)

Review: The Garnet Dagger by Andrea R. Cooper

The Garnet DaggerTitle: The Garnet Dagger
Author: Andrea R. Cooper
Publisher: Crimson Romance
Pub date: March 25th 2013
Buy: Amazon
Forbidden to cross the Elvin barrier into human lands, Brock cannot sate his curiosity. Cursed by a vampyre bite that forces him to feed on the life-essence of others, he is unable to touch another without taking their life. Chained by prophesy, he must find a witch, pierce her heart, and draw her blood for his cure. Celeste must escape the monks who have held her prisoner for years. Her magic has been kept dormant by her captors. An ancient powerful Warloc craves her powers. If he succeeds in devouring her magic, she and the world will die. When Brock falls in love with Celeste before realizing her demise is his cure, will love triumph over his desire to be healed? Will he risk everything to save her from a Warloc, an oath breaker, who also wants her dead?

A massive thank you to Andrea R. Cooper for letting me read this book for my honest review.

So the story follows Brock who is an Elvin living in a land amongst trees who always had a liking to human culture and sneaking away to watch humans and their behaviour. Until one day, a vampyre puts a curse on him turning him into a Vaer. (Still with me) Right so poor old Brock’s marriage to Liana is put on hold after he kisses her and accidentally steals her life essence. Oops.  He is then banished from his land to follow the quest set out by the ancient prophecies of killing a witch in order to get rid of his stealing essences habit. Easy peasy right. Not really.

After being captured by Father Morgan, he finds a witch with healing powers that helps him escape and will not leave him alone. But is she the witch from the prophecy? If so, why does he lust over her? Can he kill her to fulfil the prophecy and save his family?

Quite proud of the detailed description of the book I must say so.

So the book is a paranormal romance filled with mystery and confusion all around.  The writing I need to point out is very grabbing. The language alone is great, the book is set in the mythical olden days where innkeepers had to bring your bath to you and then carry water up to you so I did not expect to really know what was going on half the time. Ms Cooper has done a great job telling the story from a male point of view and making sure that everything was easy to understand.

The idea behind the book is intriguing. However it is not the best book; it’s also not the worst book.

This little book has a story that fits only certain types of readers and it is an average book. There is nothing extraordinary about the book.  There are good and bad points about the story line, the characters and even the writing along the book.

I love the fact that Ms Cooper let the relationship between Brock and Celeste grow naturally over the months it’s not something authors really pay attention to. But I hate the fact that when Brock does steal the essence from people it’s not explained very well how it feels, what it’s like, ect. There is just a little description on something that I believe should matter a lot.

The book is a good enough read. It’s not something I would have picked up for myself exactly but I’m glad I got the chance to read the book. It’s just an ordinary book about some not ordinary characters and a story line about a quest.

Mini Review: Wind and Shadow by Tori L. Ridgewood

Wind and Shadow (The Talbot Trilogy #1)Title- Wind and Shadow
Author- Tori. L. Ridgewood
Publisher- Melange Books
Date Published- June 2013

Rayvin Woods, photographer and natural witch. She just wanted to start her life over again after a series of misadventures. She didn't count on rekindling a lost love when she came home to Talbot...or battling a malevolent vampire and his coven for her life. Grant Michaels, police officer. He thought Rayvin was a murderer. He will do whatever it takes to protect the community he loves from danger...but will he learn to trust his heart, and the word of a witch, before it's too late? Malcolm de Sade, cunning vampire, imprisoned underground for a year by Charlotte Fanning and Pike Mahonen ("Mist and Midnight", Midnight Thirsts). His accidental release unleashes his hunger and ambition on a small, sleepy town… *** Facing the past can be a nightmare. It's worse when a vampire is stalking you.
I received this book for free with the cutest little note from the author and I was so so happy! I mean look at that pretty cover!! But unfortunately I haven't yet finished the book. After a lot of times of me giving up and then picking the book up once again a day later I think the book deserves a little mini review of what I thought of it so far. (by the way I stopped reading the book for now. Hopefully I will come back to the book soon)
So the good points. The cover is super pretty (yes I'm bad and judge). The idea is also really cool! There's magic and vampires and lost love... What else can a girl want? Not to mention the writing of the style. I absolutely love how Tori Ridgewood writes (the stuff I've read) it's clear to understand and you can literally stop and pick it up just like that no need to try and get back into it.
The not so good points. Actually so far I don't think there are bad points. I don't know why I can't get into this book. For all of you guys that know about the types of books I like vampires are right up my sleeve. :( this is really sad.

Not yet rated.

Mini Reviews: Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill and Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier

Title: Some Girls Bite
Author: Chloe Neill
Series: Chicagoland Vampires #1
Publisher: NAL Trade
Date Published: April 7, 2009
This book probably deserves more than the 2.5 I gave it but then again it was somewhere between okay and likeable for me. I am not a fan of vampire books, I have my reasons of course and I am trying to reconnect with vampires because otherwise I am going to be avoiding a lot of books and then eventually I’ll run out of books to read and then I’ll die.
The only vampire series I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed was the Vampire Academy. I was actually surprised by how good the world building was in this book but it couldn’t overlook my issues with the book. The main character was awesome but I hated how she was obsessed with Ethan. I do NOT like Ethan. I like Morgan and she doesn’t really spare him a second glance. I also dislike her best friend. She is supportive and what not but it seems like she is more obsessed with the idea of her best friend being a vampire than anything else. Also it annoys me that she doesn’t realize that Merit is moving out because of her. It really pissed me off because you know you both share the house dammit and she also needs her sleep, go to his house if you plan on staying awake (no I am not going to say it). One of the things that bothered me about the world building was that why are the vampires only in Chicago? What’s so special about Chicago? Yeah.. that didn’t make sense to me at all.
I believe that this book would probably appeal to everyone but if you cannot overlook certain things then you are going to have a hard time enjoying it, just like I did.

Title: Ruby Red
Author: Kerstin Gier
Series: The Ruby Red Trilogy #1
Publisher: Henry Holt
Release Date: May 10, 2011
Buy: Amazon
Damn these Germans can write, first Cornelia and now Kerstin.
I don’t think I’ve read a time travel book this good. Mostly you would come across time travel romances but this book isn’t about the romance, it’s about the mystery and time travel.
Everything is so well developed. From the relationships to the plot to the ending. The ending is good but the epilogue is worth dying for. Plus there isn’t a cliff hanger although the Epilogue does leave you rather excited (dying) for the sequel.
The only problem I had was Gideon. I kind of dislike him. He is the pretty boy, the boy who thinks it’s alright to act like a jerk and treat people like shit, sure there are good sides to him and he has his own sob story (well it isn’t that sad but you get the point) but I hate it when guys be jerks for no real reason.
This book blew my mind and is so damn original. Time travel, secret societies, lies, evil mind readers, sarcastic main characters, what else can a girl want?
I recommend this book to everyone who is looking for something unique.

Review: Hot Blooded by Amanda Carlson

Hot Blooded by Amanda Carlson
Series: Jessica McClain #2
Publisher: Orbit

Release Date: April 23rd, 2013
Buy: Amazon

Goodreads Summary

It hasn't been the best week for Jessica McClain.

Her mate has been kidnapped by a Goddess hell-bent on revenge --- but Jessica is playing for keeps.

Because she's the only female werewolf in town...it comes with its own set of rules...and powers.

Aided by two vamps, two loyal Pack members, and one very reluctant human, Jessica must rescue her man while coming to terms with what being a wolf really means.

All in a day's work for a girl.

The second novel in the Jessica McClain series is a full on action adventure featuring one angry Goddess and plenty of monsters, demons, and a few newly risen beasties...

With Cold Blooded so close to its release date, I decided to request this and finally read it. Full Blooded was somewhat disappointing and had it not ended the way it did, I probably wouldn’t have read this one.  I was hoping that things would take a more interesting turn now that we were past the whole Jessica becoming the only female werewolf. Honestly, this one wasn’t a whole lot better than the first. So much more can be done with this series if the author puts her mind to it.

“.. who made you lord and superior over the entire world? Human or supernatural? You don’t get to choose. A life is a life.”

Jessica fell extremely flat for me in the first book and I can gladly say that there was a definite improvement in her character in this book. She came to life for me. She wasn’t two dimensional anymore. It’s been about a week since her first change and she still getting used to the idea. She’s been human for so long that she cannot just openly embrace all of the rules. There is too much ‘human’ in her. Because of this she goes out of her way to save the life of Ray, someone who hates her and has been making her life miserable. She also becomes a whole lot stronger in this book. Yes some things are definitely hard for her to wrap her head around but if you expect her to happily accept everything that is thrown at her then… I am not even sure what to say. That would make her too gullible of a character and I wouldn’t want that.

Danny is his usual chummy self and I love how he is always there for Jessica. He is a fun character and extremely loyal but that’s almost all there was to him. Also am I the only one bothered by the fact that he seemed to be developing feelings for Naomi? It seemed too easy. Look at Tyler and all the problems he is having with the whole vampire thing, and he is younger than Danny. How can Danny just let go so easily of his beliefs?

“My sister is not up for adoption, Demon”

I have a soft spot for Tyler because, as I mentioned in my review for Full Blooded, I’ve always wanted a twin brother. I was so glad that the author hadn’t killed him off and made him just a memory in Jessica’s mind (which happens more often than I’d like). He could be a little difficult from time to time but I still loved him. I loved how he would do anything to protect his (older ;)) sister. The connection between the two of them is interesting and their relationship a delight to read (a good siblings relationship, you gotta admit, they are hard to find).

Now for my favorite character in this book (Rourke doesn’t count!), RAY. So if you read my review to the first book you would know that for some odd reason I found myself oddly attached to Ray. His will never ceases to amaze me. He is such a strong character. However, in the beginning of the book I actually though that I might change my mind about him since he was being so difficult and refusing to accept what was right in front of him. But he grew so much in this book. There was so much character development on his side. You might even say he grew to like Jessica (don’t tell him I said that, he’ll kill me).

As for Rourke, even though I knew he was going to be absent for most of this book, I was sorely disappointed. It’s just that for the past 2 books we haven’t really gotten to know him better as a character. There wasn't much of him in either books yet we have the big jump from the shock of the fact that he and Jessica are mates to the fact that they cannot live without each other. I just wish we could see a lot more of that relationship and a lot more of Rourke for that matter! It would be so much easier to swallow their relationship (not that I didn't enjoy the 'moments' I just want to see more).

One of the things that is really different about this book is the fact that the female lead is not alone. She isn’t some sort of orphan who has to go through this change alone. Her father, her brother and her friends will always be there to back her up and help her through the unknown.

One of the complaints I had about the last book was that there wasn’t more about the prophecy. This time around we got to learn a lot more about the ‘actual’ prophecy and more about Jessica’s powers. I really should be vary seeing how special she is and while I am kind of on the edge about it I am not bothered so that’s a good sign.

My main complaint with this book was the plot. The whole book revolves around them trying to get Rourke back. It was too dull for me. Yes they are fighting all these creatures and there is tons of action but it all comes back to the point that there isn’t anything really going on. Something just seemed to be missing.

The one thing that happened right before the ending annoyed me (it has to do with Ray… for those who know what I am talking about). I really did not want them to happen. :/ The ending itself, like the previous book, was a cliffhanger and in some ways even worse than the one from the last book. There are so many questions in my mind.

Despite the fact that the first 2 books didn’t do much for me, I am ready for the third one. I get the feeling it’s going to be pretty awesome. BRING IT ON.

Goodreads summary

Since meeting the irresistible vampire brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore, Elena Gilbert has been to hell and back. Now that she and her friends have saved their hometown from a demonic sprit, everything can finally go back to normal. But Elena should know better than anyone that Fell’s Church will never be normal. In Phantom, a dangerous new threat sets its sights on Elena. And this time she can only count on one Salvatore brother to protect her.

(NOTE: So I read this ages ago but I wanted to share my review because I kinda giggled at the stuff I wrote.)

First of all this plot was outrageous!! The plot should have been impossible but it somehow was, it was somehow put together and written and then sold.

Reasons I read the book and reasons I will read the end of the series:

I have to end a series I started whatever it might be or take for me to finish it I will, and come on its vampire diaries, it has Damon and Stefan in there and for me that was enough to buy this stupid book.

So apart from the characters what did I love? Well truth be told not much, there were bits I did sort of like but not enough to classify this book as any good. The story never died for me in Midnight, but this was not the way I thought it would carry on, it was as if L.J Smith took a pen and wrote whatever came into her mind while she was in a coma and then ta-da.

Why oh why does this book have to go on and on about how great Elena is?!?! I get it she’s one of the main characters and the story is mostly about her but seriously? Are you f****** kidding me?! Why is she dying so much? Why the hell is she coming back?! Why the hell is she breaking poor Stefan’s heart all the bloody time?! I mean come on! I love him to bits but that boy has to grow a backbone and ditch her, if I had anyone who adored me as much as he does her I would never ever even think about anyone else (or at least try to).

And what the hell is up with Elena being so bitchy in this book? Is she on her period for the whole thing? Why does every single breathing and non breathing guy have to be in love with her? Head over heels in love. And then for her to be a bitch when they don’t?

Ever since the first book I never liked how she was portrayed; like a little spoiled princess getting everything she ever dreamed off with a tragic life and every single person tiptoeing around her to make sure no-one ever makes her unhappy. But this book? God I wanted to smash her head through a wall and make sure that this time she didn’t come back, alive dead or undead.

On second thoughts I think it’s Elena’s character in this book that put me off and made me scream while reading this book, but the plot was a bit off.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

256683Title: City of Bones
Author: Cassandra Clare
Series: The Mortal Instruments
Publisher: Margaret K. EcElderry Books
Date Published: March 17th, 2007
Buy: Amazon

Goodreads Summary

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

Cassandra Clare builds a world of Shadowhunters where they protect humans from demons. Not only the demons but also vampires, faeries, warlocks, witches, werewolves and everything paranormal you could ever imagine. Clary is a normal teenager until she starts to see things that aren’t meant to be there. So the book description and the world sounded so promising that I was expecting a lot. Maybe too much.

The book- a little bit confusing and I could not get into it at the very start. It just didn’t grip my interest. I wasn’t fussed about what happened at all. I enjoyed the world that Clarke created it’s new and exciting and very different from other books I’ve read. However, it still wasn’t enough. I couldn’t really imagine being in Clary’s shoes and living her life.

Although I absolutely love Clary! She’s a great female character. She doesn’t take crap from anyone that a lot of characters tend to do nowadays. When Alec was being a bit of a poop to her she stood her ground and gave him a piece of her mind.

When I was getting to the part where Clary had to stand her ground I was dreading it. I could already picture Clary running away and crying about the fact that someone was a little tiny bit mean to her. But woop that didn’t happen. You guys have no idea how happy this made me. I’m sick of seeing characters that are just wusses! Jace is a hotty and I love his sarcastic and witty responses. The only problem is I don’t like the actor playing Jace in the movie… He doesn’t look like the Jace I pictured in my mind at all.

The whole shadowhunters business reminded me a lot of Charmed TV series, even the whole demon thing. But I love charmed so I don’t mind.

I don’t get the runes… They can cure you but only sometimes and only certain things, they have enhancing powers or something but it’s not mentioned during the fights and I still can’t wrap my head around them I just don’t understand what they do and how they work! Cassandra did not go into detail while explaining this at all!

More about the fights- love the action, hate the description of them. I only got half of what happened and what was involved. I would think someone is across the room and then I find out that they are actually part of the fight and then some of the fight moves didn’t make much sense to me. Thankfully, the description of the fights improved as the book went on. Honestly, I was lost quite a bit and that put me off.

I really liked the different twists going on although they were quite easy to guess or see coming around the corner; I still really enjoyed them. It made the whole book seem more exciting even at times when it was just someone telling a story or Clary finding out more about the new world that she was thrown into without any notice.

There were a few errors during the book that I didn’t really mind but I was a little annoyed that they were still there. The book was mostly spoken in 3rd person but sometimes there were hints of paragraphs that were in 1st person. It was hard to ignore that.

I enjoyed this book a lot and I was surprised as I genuinely thought I was reading this book just because. But no halfway through I realised what this book is quite awesome! I wouldn’t say I loved this book as it left me quite confused and muddled at times not mentioning some of the errors made and the things that were left unexplained. I will deffo continue with the series as I cannot wait to see what happens later with Clary and Jace… Although I hated the ending. The big twist about them being brother and sister… Okay I did see it when Luke said something about Jocelyn’s little boy who had blonde hair. Bells were ringing then. But I didn’t want to believe it.

I couldn’t believe it. They clearly fell in love with each other and fair enough they didn’t know in the beginning but I looked at the second book and I’m disturbed by what I found in the summary… Like double gross!!! So now if anything happens between them I’m going to be super disturbed and grossed out. Brilliant.

The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead

The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2)
Title: The Golden Lily

Goodreads summary

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.

Sydney would love to go to college, but instead, she’s been sent into hiding at a posh boarding school in Palm Springs, California–tasked with protecting Moroi princess Jill Dragomir from assassins who want to throw the Moroi court into civil war. Formerly in disgrace, Sydney is now praised for her loyalty and obedience, and held up as the model of an exemplary Alchemist.

But the closer she grows to Jill, Eddie, and especially Adrian, the more she finds herself questioning her age–old Alchemist beliefs, her idea of family, and the sense of what it means to truly belong. Her world becomes even more complicated when magical experiments show Sydney may hold the key to prevent becoming Strigoi—the fiercest vampires, the ones who don’t die. But it’s her fear of being just that—special, magical, powerful—that scares her more than anything. Equally daunting is her new romance with Brayden, a cute, brainy guy who seems to be her match in every way. Yet, as perfect as he seems, Sydney finds herself being drawn to someone else—someone forbidden to her.

When a shocking secret threatens to tear the vampire world apart, Sydney’s loyalties are suddenly tested more than ever before. She wonders how she's supposed to strike a balance between the principles and dogmas she's been taught, and what her instincts are now telling her.

Should she trust the Alchemists—or her heart?

I slept with this book for about two weeks while I was in hospital and when I got out, for some reason I just couldn’t get to it and I couldn’t bring myself to reading it. Which sucked cause I really wanted to read it.
… When Dimitir and Eddie walked in being all dangerous and hot I couldn’t help myself but to read it in slow motion to make it look even more awesome (if that was possible). And it was.
So I don’t have the same views as Sidney about vampires and magic- how she doesn’t like Jill using hers in front of her or Adrian being a vampire and all that and I get it cause she was brought up that way and she has to feel this way. But I would love that the idea of vampires, and magic and just them but then again that’s just me and it would be kind of boring if Sidney agreed to everything. The way the book was written in her voice, it was really clear about the reasons why she felt that way that she did and it was so convincing which made it 10 times better. In Bloodlines I distanced myself from her, I couldn’t get into her mind and why she thought/ did some of the stuff she did but during this book all of that was gone and for me that was what made this book so much more better then Bloodlines.
Actually on second thoughts I don’t know if it was better than Bloodlines- both books are epic and awesome and just beautiful. I can’t bring myself to choose between the two it’s like choosing which child you love more.
The book lacks romance big time! And I am gutted by that as Richelle is so good at writing romantic and hot scenes but there is clearly something going on between Sidney and Adrian and that made it bearable. Just.
And what I like about their relationship is that it’s not being rushed, they clearly care about each other but it’s taking their time and I love that it’s so cute and I want to be the girl that Adrian is lusting over.
For me this new series has everything that Vampire Academy had. It has danger, action, some romance, it’s funny, cute, and very lovable. With no doubt this is one of the best books/ series’ I’ve read.

One thing that I didn’t really like was the ending. I loved what happened I hated how it ended so quickly!
I cannot wait for the next book! If I could, I would go to sleep and have someone wake me up when the book comes out! Maybe I’ll have a dream about Dimitir and Adrian… but then I wouldn’t want to wake up ever again so that’s out of the question.

Goodreads summary

A simple mission turned deadly.

Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.

Imagine vampires coming out of the coffins and walking amongst us, with us knowing and accepting them…..
From the prologue I could feel myself falling in love with this book! I’m not exaggerating from the very first line I was hooked!! Here’s the first line of the book “A sharp, searing pain pierced through my chest as I watched the guy I liked- the guy I was falling in love with- kiss another girl.”
What did I tell you? Amazing! And did I mention how much I love this quote?

The book is set in 2015- however whenever I was reading the book I felt like I was being thrown into the 1900’s or even earlier. By the way Dawn described stuff, how all the characters talked and acted (well all apart from Brooke) it was as if the whole Angel Creek took a step back in time but decided to keep all of the gadgets and every modern thing. And I wasn’t expecting it to work. But it did strangely enough. I had my doubts I kept thinking “oh hang on this isn’t how a normal teenage girl would act, not nowadays” But it actually made the book so much better….

So not only is the book set three years in the future, but vampires have come out of their coffins into the real world meaning one thing humans know about vampires! They know that they exist and walk amongst them. So what does our population do with that knowledge? Run away screaming in fear? Nope they welcome them with open arms and make them famous. Trusting humans to do the exact opposite.

The characters had a lot of history, some painful, some shocking and some absolutely heart breaking. When I was reading the chapter about Sebastian’s family it made me want to cry. It was so sad. And then when Dawn was finally getting the answers from her father that she deserved a long time ago. It was really emotional. I was ready to cry, I didn’t expect it at all. It’s just not something that I saw coming.

The book was mostly action, and no romance which sucked. Or at least that’s what I thought at first. The lack of romance during the book certainly was really disappointing but then when I reached the end and read the last line I couldn’t help but smile and squeal and giggle to myself. It was the MOST perfect way to end this book! It was so so cute, absolutely adorable, I loved it so much. Every time I think about it I keep smiling to myself like an idiot.

I don’t like Ethan. He’s charming and cute, and bit goofy at times. But I don’t like him. I did at one point (well actually before I was introduced to the hotty that is Sebastian) and soon he seemed really annoying! Like a puppy running around wanting attention from Dawn *yawn* compared to Sebastian he had no chance.
I was expecting this book to be one of the stories where a girl (never been kissed or had a boyfriend) moves out of her father’s mansion to a small town. Where she meets two hotties who are falling in love with her! Fighting over her non-stop. Boring, boring, boring. I’m so glad that this book turned out to be a lot more. Instead of all the vampire-love we got vampire-action, really there was quite a lot of death.
