This book may not be the most original but it definitely had some things going for it. I was rather excited for this book seeing that I usually enjoy books by Jennifer despite my complaints. This was her first new-adult I believe, and I was excited to see how she would fair with this genre. I was so excited when this book came out a few days early because I really hate waiting. I am too impatient.  I must say though, this one doesn’t disappoint. If you’ve read some of her other works you have an idea about what to expect, hot scenes, hot chic, hot guy, something going on, couple of secrets etc.

This book had some of the same things. But what made this book unique was despite the fact that our main character Avery has never dated, nor has been kissed; she doesn’t act like a naïve kid. You’d act someone with no relationship experience to act all weird around guys and freak out but she doesn’t. She acknowledges the fact that she may not be so experienced but she never lets it bring her down. It kind of annoys me from time to time how girls in similar stories tend to act all naïve and unknowing, just because you haven’t been in a relationship doesn’t mean you have to be ignorant about what happens. Also Avery is an easy character to read, she  definitely makes mistakes but I like the fact that she is cautious instead of throwing herself at the guy who shows interest in her. That would be pathetic seeing that she has a past that has always made her vary.

Cam. Seeing as he is the popular guy around, you would expect him to be either a jerk or overtly nice. He is neither. He happens to be easy going and doesn’t take the popularity to his head nor does he act like he doesn’t know it’s there. He is nice to people but doesn’t go over the top. I like this about him. I like the whole asking her out everyday thing, it made me laugh so much, and even when she rejected him, he kept on asking, even though he wasn’t necessarily serious, he still DID want to go on a date with her.

I think one of the sweet things is how their relationships develops slowly, sure it’s lust at first sight but you know none of them act like they are in love with each other after seeing the other. It takes some time to develop and I think I can see where it becomes love. Although I am not too sure about the love part. It’s not the book, it’s usually hard to convince me that a romance has genuine love in it. One of the other things that bother me is why Cam shows an interest in her, I mean sure she has great qualities but he knows nothing about her when he shows an interest.

Avery’s parents suck. There is no question about it. If you are questioning that, I am not sure which planet you live on. Despite this I like how things play out with her parents, I won’t say HOW exactly because that would mean spoiling but yeah. The book also ends on a good note. The ending isn’t over done and not all knots are completely tied but it’s still a good ending.

Overall, I recommend it to people who are looking for a light contemporary romance, don’t expect too much, but still it’s one to enjoy.

From the start, I was gripped. A new story by one of my favorite authors, there was no way I was going to not read this and not enjoy it. Well I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. And I can’t stop thinking it’s because I hyped myself up for this book to be brilliant and flawless and was hit by a small car of disappointment. I love Jennifer’s work. I fall head over heels in love with her stories and her male characters (who doesn’t?) But this book was off.

I was really disappointed, it was nothing like compared to her other work. This is a second book that’s from the New Age genre by Jennifer that I’ve read, but I did read some of her other work. This book is my least favorite though.

Avery is a weak character, the thing I love most about Jennifer’s work apart from the very hot guys is the strong female characters that she portrays in her book. I was more than let down with Avery’s characters as I read the book. It just didn’t seem right to me.

When Avery was with her friends and Cam having lunch or hanging out some of the things that the group was, saying/ talking about just seemed so weird. I can’t imagine people in their early 20's talking like that. It just seems excessively I don’t know fake I guess.

There are a few things that drove me insane but never the less I still liked this book. The parts that weren't stupid were pretty awesome and the book was still well written. Overall the story line was quite emotional and quite good, the story behind Avery, the past coming back to haunt her, and her facing her past once and for all. I’m kinda surprised that this is a series. I thought that this would have been fine as a novel. I will continue with the series because I want to know more but I’m not going to count down the days.

That was one of my problems with this book; it just did not seem real. The very first run in with Cam was really cute and I love that I can see something like that happening but how their relationship then carried on got more and more fakeish. It started off with them being friends, becoming pretty much best friends where Cam would ask Avery out all the time (which was freakishly cute) and their relationship looked great. Until they went on a date, and until they went to his house for thanksgiving. This brings me to my next point. Like what the hell happened when Cam noticed Avery’s scar… I can’t really even process that… Why would she shut him out? I get it it’s not something  you want people to know about but shutting someone out completely is just ridiculous. From that point on the book just seemed off to me. Some of the things that Avery did were just way too much. Just no.
