Ten disastrous thoughts while bleaching your own hair.

So I decided to bleach my hair because I want to go platinum blonde. It's more or less there now but these are exactly the thoughts that went through my head as a I bleached it.

1, Loads of people do it. I mean all the research that I have done showed me tons of girls bleaching their hair on youtube! I am clearly an expert.
2, What is the worst that can happen? Really, what could be the worst thing to happen. Your hair can fall out, the damage would be disastrous and you might have to invest in a wig for the rest of your life. But apart from that. WHAT IS THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN!??!
3, I had red hair before the colour before dyeing it brown, itt won’t go ginger. I know that it does for everyone and that it will happen. But not for me. I won’t go ginger. I’m an expert.
4, What is that burning smell ?
5, Okay this itches a lot, I’m just going to pretend that this burning itching sensation is normal and it will just make my hair so much more prettier.
6, I probably should have paid a professional to do this. How much did I spend on all this bleach?
7, No, it’s still okay. Lets just wash this all off and cross my fingers for the best.
8, better get used to all the ginger jokes for the next few days.
9, Maybe now I should go to a professional

10, Maybe I should just bleach it one more time. I can make this right, and then put toner on it. Maybe bleach it next week too.

Discussion: My top bookish problems.

I was very sad that I missed out on the top ten tuesday this week and the 10 bookish problems you all seem to have. I feel your pain! So instead I decided I will do a discussion type post on this topic :D

Not enough book events.
I live near flipping London! I would hope that there would be plenty of book signings and author meets and other fun book events but surprise surprise there isn't that many! although I probably should not be complaining about this as some of you live in the middle of nowhere (sorry) where there are no bookish events at all. But my frustration only grows at this. As bloggers and readers we have a right to meet our hero's god damn it!

Price of books.
Believe me if I could afford to pay a lot of money for books I would. I would give all of my money to you fantastic authors out there because you deserve it! But I am a student and I unfortunately do not have money to spend. This is why charity shops and sales are my favourite things! I get to buy used books (I have a weird thing about used books) and cheaply!

However it seems that everybody has read all the books that I have. I keep finding books that I have already read and purchased in many charity shops. Can somebody please donate a brand new book??? Although I already have a copy of that book I tend to still buy the used one. I feel like I owe it to the book and the author to get the book.

Not having enough space.
I have three bookshelves nearly filled with books. I have over 120 books in my room alone, and I want more! Rationally I know that I have no space for these books and that when I move houses I will need to make a lot of heavy trips just to transport them I still have a need for more!

Not being able to say goodbye to some books.
I would love to be able to say goodbye to the ones that I many not have enjoyed as much as others or even to swap with somebody for a different book. But I feel like all of these books are a part of me! I can't just give myself away like that!

Disscussion: Reading while ill or deeply sad.

In books, movies and TV shows I always find that one person that reads in bed when they are ill or facing a horrible time like it is their escape. Sure enough when you're ill and have nothing to do and so much spare time it would be the perfect scenario and the perfect time for a reader to read their little hearts out. For me that is out of the question. Recently I have been more or less heartbroken over stupid reasons; yes one of the reasons was a boy therefore I was so incredibly sad that just leaving my room felt like an impossible task. So reading would have been amazing, it would have given me the much needed time to fall in love with new characters and a new world. However at the moment all of my books are romantic, the book I'm still currently reading although it's a great book and I absolutely love it I can’t seem to want to read it while in my miserable state. I would much rather read a real, hard hitting truth book than a teenage romance while I’m gloomy and lashing out at everything.

The fact that I have been a heartless walking zombie for the past two weeks or so isn’t the only reason why I cannot seem to be able to read. I have been dealing with a dreadful cold that gets better for a day and comes back with a much bigger punch. So the fact that my head is thumping away making my eyes sore, while I’m coughing up quite possibly my lungs and trying to keep down any cold medicine I muster to take; reading has not been at all on my mind.

Even though I miss sitting in my room until my muscles tense up and cause me pain I enjoy my little time alone with a favourite novel. The is no doubt that I would love nothing more than to pick up my book and continue where I left off but I would rather not have to keep pausing every other page to muster the little energy I have left to cough; or have to deal with reading about happy couples and everyone’s lives being together when my world seems to be falling apart all around me.

I cannot wait for my hormones to stop acting like teenagers and for my god awful cough to go away so that I can sink back and jump right into my old habits and try to forget about all of my problems; instead focusing over obsessing about the characters problems.

Kindle vs Physical Copies.

To start this off I'll explain the reason for this post- Rashika and I decided long ago when we first started blogging that we should save Saturday's for something fun! So this is the reason for my little post about Kindles vs Physical Copies :-)

Ever since Amazon released the Kindle and others followed with different versions of a new way to read, readers and bloggers and pretty much anyone out there that has more than two braincells and likes to read have been listing pros and cons for each.
My best friend gave me a kindle last year that he wasn't using and I vowed to only use it whenever I received eARC or for all those little books that are only available as ebooks. But now with my library on the little device growing I find myself reading on it more often.

There is nothing I love more than smelling a brand new book, running my fingers over the words and the spine, looking at the pretty cover and the texture of it and then finally breaking the spine for the first time. Without that reading for me wouldn't be half the fun I think...
But then again books are heavy. And when I'm on the go, or I'm visiting someone for a few days I don't want to bring 5 books with me that are killing my back as I crawl to my destination.

Reasons why I like my Kindle

  1. It's super light! I don't have to use my non existent muscles carrying it around.
  2. I can store a lot of books on there. YAY.
  3. The battery lasts for a long time.
Reasons why my Kindle is annoying
  1. I have to charge it a lot.
  2. If I get a book from NetGalley the author's names are all messed up.
  3. I like everything to be perfect and my Kindle messes up a lot with all of my books being in the wrong order ect.
  4. I don't really like technology.
  5. It doesn't feel like a real book and I can't add the books to my shelf collection.

I will still use my Kindle for eARC and books that I can't get in print but I don't think I will ever switch from my lovely paperbacks to ebooks. I need the books to feel real, I need them in my hands.
How about you guys? Have you taken the big leap after so many years of ereaders out there and are just using them? Or are yo still loving paper and hardback copies ?

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

Our Rating:

Rashika: Nope nope nope. I am so done with this series. Yes I guess this wasn't what I wanted. I was hoping that perhaps I was wrong when I read Opal, I was hoping that maybe this book would change my mind but it didn't. I don't care for this series anymore.

Paulina: I know right?! What the hell was this, like seriously. I love Jennifer but she needs to learn how to stop something before she ruins the series.

Rashika: Look at the two of them. They are both impulsive and don't think twice before doing something. In real life they would have been dead by now because of their stupidity, lucky for them they somehow ALWAYS survive. I know I should be glad that Katy's mind couldn't be changed but seriously. She really should at least consider the fact that there are evil Luxen who want to take over the world and destroy humanity. They *ARE* aliens and they *ARE* a lot more powerful than humans. Isn't it possible that they want to destroy the Earth? Just because you're in love with a 'good' alien doesn't mean the lot of them are like that.

Paulina: Don't even get me started on that. Seriously Daemon seemed so obsessed with everything. I get it you love her but chill your beans. I get the whole Arum vs Luxen thing. One being bad one good but not everything is so black and white.

Rashika: Speaking of Aliens. Why are they so hot? and on that note.. can these two stop talking about how hot the other person is. Seriously. Considering that Daemon's beauty is actually superficial (it's not what he actually looks like), why is it so emphasized?

Paulina: When I first started reading the series (so many years ago) I was superficial and liked the whole Alien being hot and sexy. But it's not all about looks. Look at me being grown up.

Rashika: We're both so grown up and mature now :'). Opal wasn't all that good but I though the dual pov would help in this book. It didn't. It so did NOT work. They two of them sounded exactly the same. Like 13 year olds. Silly little immature teens who are impulsive, don't think twice of their consequences and their world is centered around their own needs/wants. Neither of them act like the adults they are. Daemon still treats her like this fragile flower and also says stuff like "I don't love you for your brains". I get that it's a joke but... I don't actually see him once complementing her on anything that would actually mean something. He says stuff like she is gorgeous and how she is too good for him but.. yeah. Cheese alert. I drowned in it. Just sayin'.

Paulina: Okay so I kind of liked the dual pov... But it was so hard to get used to it. I totally agree with you about the 13 year olds comment. Everyone annoyed me in this book. Just so annoying. Did I grow up or was the book kinda crap?

Rashika: I think we both grew up :P The only good thing about this book was Luc. I liked him. I liked Blake too. He was my favorite character but what became of him early on in the book stopped him from being a plus. I hate how Katy acts like she is better than him. She admits she would have done the same thing but then she also contradicts herself. It pisses me off to no end. I loved Matthew in the first 3 books but he wasn't around a lot in this one.

Paulina: Matthew used to be my favourite character. Blake I didn't really have feelings for... Also Katy annoyed me from the very first book. The whole "oh I don't deserve him" crap. She was just annoying from the start. She grew on me during the second and third book but I was not impressed with her here.

Rashika: I wasn't impressed with the plot either. I basically had to force myself to finish the damn book. There was nothing happening till the end and then everything happened at once. And too many stupid things at that. I could probably list them all out but I cannot because spoiler alert. Darn it. I was pulling out my hair by the time I got to the end.

Paulina: I was not looking forward to reading this book at all. I wanted the series to end. Seriously the whole plot line is just a massive cliche. Everything was just so easy to foresee. Seriously what was up with that? Nothing surprised me at all.

Rashika: Predictability for the win (sarcasm). I knew people would die. I didn't even care. I only felt annoyed that the triplets always made it out alive. What makes them so special? Nothing I can see because they are a bunch of useless pathetic idiots.

Paulina: Usually a death has to happen to make me really like the book. Just for the emotions and feels. But here I didn't care. I completely agree with you about the triplets being "special" I get why. Because they are the main characters but that doesn't mean they need to be alive and amazing.

Rashika: LOL. I'd rather my main characters survive but common, Dawson and Beth? At least THEY could have died :P Look at me being all morbid. I went into this book expecting brain candy and brain candy I did not get. Instead I got a main dish of cheese with a plot on the side. I am beyond frustrated. Yes this was still not bad enough to get a 1 but it was bad enough that I simply cannot carry on with this series any more. I am not the girl I was when I started it. This series no longer does anything for me. Daemon does not make me swoon. He makes me want to punch something. Katy isn't awesome. She is a pain in the ass. Their romance is not swoon worthy, it's puke worthy. This series is no longer one of the best things ever. It is bland and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I won't re-read the first two books so as to preserve the magic of the past but I will not be reading the last book and will have to ask Paulina dear to spoil it for me.

Paulina: Yeah... I will finish the series. I need to so I can spoil it for Rashika. I'm so very disappointing with the book!!! I have no words. I need to have a think about it :/

Annoying Romance Tropes

So we've been meaning to do a post about this for ages. The three of us have read many books and have had tons of bad experiences with crappy romances. So we decided to put together a rant about it. The focus will be NA and YA.

Okay to start things off as this was my idea (Paulina) relationships are not perfect. I'm getting kinda sick of seeing the same type of story line with all the New Age Romance Genres. It's getting really annoying now. Here is the plot of most romance books- girl is shy/new/doesn't like people, she somehow meets the hottest guy - possibly in the whole country/college/school and he falls in love with her. Why? I have no clue. But he falls in love or he wants to get to know her and plot twist is that she doesn't like him or thinks she's too good for him.

Then we have about half of the book about the "chase". The guy tries his hardest to win the girl over but she keeps saying no. This is the only originalish bit about the books because authors can go out and play around with this by making it funny, sometimes creepy, sweet, or really weird. But then something drastic happens like someone dies/ the girl falls over/ gets bullied or something completely random and she realises that the guy of her dreams, the same guy that every single girl wants, and the same guy who randomly fell in love with her is the right guy for her. The book takes a twist where she says yes and tells him just how much she loves him and how she wants to have babies with him or whatever. But. Dun Dun Dun something happens to break their perfect relationship for example she thinks he's cheating, or some other girl makes her insecure about their relationship. But fear not! After about a chapter of the girl trying to "find herself" she once again realises that the guy is perfect and all of that crap. The end. Did I mention they all live happily ever after?

Think back to some of the typical romance New Age and Young Adult books that you've read that were purely about romance - did this sound familiar?

Let's not forget how perfectly pretty these people tend to be. I (Rashika) for one cannot stand it at all. Maybe I just have issues with pretty people or MAYBE I realize that no one can be that pretty. Sure these books are fiction but I don't want to read about a perfect character. Imperfect characters will do. And I don't mean those stupid characters that attempt at being imperfect but somehow everyone is so obviously in love with them. I mean have you read those books where all the guys are in love with the girl who is TSTL? No I don't want a romance that involves two perfect people who are making out half the time and have their I love you's a couple pages into the book. I want a couple who is capable of fighting over little things, a couple who is capable of respecting each other and for crying out loud - actually have the ability to communicate.

Let's face it. Authors who create perfect worlds for us to escape too are great. But too perfect is bad. This is not something that would most likely happen in real life. This is just not how life works. I (Paulina) have a massive issue with romance and how everything is so shiny and brilliant and not a grey cloud in the sky.

Then there are also the romances where one of the characters broods about how he/she is not good enough and how they should stay away from him/her. Give me a break man. We know you're going to end up together so cut out that hot and cold shit. I (Rashika) dont't like putting up with it. This all comes back to being able to trust each other. A good relationship is built on trust and if two people cannot trust each other you might as well call the quits because this ain't going anywhere.

What I am trying to say is that, instead of doing the whole I am dangerous/not good enough for you routine they should just try to WORK IT OUT!

Other than that I've also noticed that sometimes the plot tends to take a backseat to the romance. Once these characters fall oh so hopelessly in love, they become the center of the universe for each other and care about nothing else. The world could be ending and all they would think about is how they didn't get enough time. Things are bigger than just the two of you. GET OVER YOURSELVES and go do something instead of fawning over each other. Because honestly, while I may enjoy a good romance, I didn't come here to read about two characters drooling over each other and their minor relationship problems, I came for a LOT more and I don't have the time to just sit there and force myself to drudge through all the cheesiness of their romance when there are tons of other books waiting for me.

And don't even get me started on the complications of a love triangle (No seriously. Don't). Because please, someone explain to me how a girl can love two people at the same time. I don't KNOW! You can like two people at the same time, you can even have a crush on two people at the same time (or is that just me?) but be in love with two people at the same time? Uhhh how about NO? Some of the love triangles 'try' to be more substantial by making the girl fall in love with another guy when the original is going through some rough patches or something like that. Again. No. If you were professing your love to one guy like in the last book, you cannot just move on so quickly. Love doesn't work like that dear child, unless it wasn't love, just an infatuation. So just please. Stop. Grow up. Oh and please stop breaking your Bff's heart.

I (Megan) have very little to add to this post. I don't like it when romances are cliched, but in general - if you give me romance, I'm happy. Also, Paulina... don't hate me or anything.... but I really didn't like TFIOS. It was not near as good as everyone told me it would be. But that is not what this discussion is about!

Some of the tropes that disgust me in romance are so easy to name! I'm surprised that neither of you guys mentioned the dreaded insta-love! I mean, I understand that you're not considering it romance... LOL. I hate it when the plot of a book is amazing, and you're about three chapters in and you're saying "damn this is gonna be good" and out of nowhere....BOOM. There's a love interest. And they're in love. They know every thing there is to know about each other - in one paragraph.

You can imagine the lameness of this. (Also, Tom Hiddleston is in this GIF.) I don't want to have to tell you this... but whatever you have, whatever it's called... it's not love. You wouldn't last three weeks in the real world, and that's a MAXIMUM estimate.

Next we have the issues couple. I don't know if you've encountered them, but they have issues. Usually rape and/or death is involved in their "issues" and the only thing that can heal them is their romantic interest, whom they just don't want to drag into it. My face. It hurts from your stupidity.

I don't really understand this trope - the idea that the only one who can love someone with issues is another person with issues... it just doesn't ring true to me. There's more to love than that.

This is really all I have to say... so... Megan, out. *flashes peace sign and walks away*

I'm not saying I (Paulina) hate the authors or the books that pretty much have this plot line and make every romantic relationship amazingly perfect. No I don't. I just wish that authors would stop trying to make their worlds so perfect and all of their characters so amazingly perfect. One good example of an author who I love John Green - he created a heart shattering world where the relationship was not perfect, and the people were not perfect but normal. It's what I love, by the way talking about The Fault In Our Stars.

And for me (Rashika) that book would be How to Love. Honestly I haven't read a lot of YA lately but there is reason for that. I want to be able to love YA like I once used to without all these grievances.
